Diptyque Philosykos Solid Perfume

Like a comforting little worry stone, I like to keep the solid perfume version of Diptyque's Philosykos close, and I take it out when I want a quick dose of comfort at work. It has almost no projection, but it lasts longer than the edt, I find.

Philosykos is often described as the smell of an entire fig tree: fruit, branches, leaves, and the soil it grows in, even. I think the branches and soil come through more strongly in the edt, and the solid perfume emphasizes the green leaves and creaminess. To me, it smells a bit like an avocado shake that you'd get at a Thai restaurant. With a shade of coconut, as well. I usually don't like fruity scents, but fig is just too perfect for even a hater like me to resist.

I absolutely adore the elegant black metal case, too. It reminds me of a little intaglio jewel, it's weighty, the hinge is bomb-proof, and it has a little grey pouch to slip it into to protect it from scratches.

Highly recommended!

it's so compact and perfect and I want one! I find solid perfumes never throw very well- I am very fond of the CDG rhubarb in the height of summer, popped on the pulse points it does wonders for cooling you down and picking you up.

I am a really big Philosykos fan, it's so modern but timeless, classic but avante garde- so delicious, gets so many compliments but is no way generic. One of the best fragrances out there.

I love this scent, and I *especially* love the solid compact. You're right-- this is truly heavy, which just adds to the feeling of luxury, for me. I wish a lot more niche perfumes were sold as solids-- probably too expensive for most houses.

I seem to recall that solid perfumes were more popular when I was a kid growing up in the late 70s/80s-- I just thought they were the height of glamor.

Nice post!

Wow, Rose, CDG Rhubarb solid perfume sounds really amazing -- I had no idea such a thing existed! I agree, it has become a classic, I think. It's really the best fig out there.

Hey LCN, thanks for commenting! Yeah I think this and a solid of Fracas that I got cheap are the only two I have, but I remember seeing them around when I was a kid, too. Oh, wait, I do also have the encens from the Libellules whosa-whats-it line, as well. That one actually does have some throw, I gotta say, but I think spices/incense will do that, even in the solid form.

Interesting your comment on the difference from the smell in the EdT. I've only tested the EdT and agree that it smells more strongly of the soil in particular. In fact I think that the EdT almost smells of mushrooms - it's so earthy.

Love this solid perfume version - which I haven't seen on sale before. I'm going to look out for it now as I want some!!

I have the Fracas solid, and it's gorgeous. It's also toned-down enough that I can wear it, Fracas not normally being my speed!
I had no idea Diptyque did solids. Must check that out, thanks for the tip.
